WorldPride Cape Town 2028: Why We Can't Wait

Cape Town already won us over. Now it's hosting Africa's first WorldPride in 2028. Here's why we're excited, what organisers have announced and what's still to come.

  • Future event guide
  • Researched planning guide

Cape Town already had us plotting a return. Table Mountain, evenings in De Waterkant and wine tasting that had us tipsy by lunch. We loved it.

Now add Africa's first WorldPride in 2028, and you can understand why we're excited. Cape Town Pride is hosting, with the event officially recognised by InterPride. This is going to be a significant moment for LGBTQ+ communities across the continent, and we're looking forward to seeing African voices, artists and activists at the centre of it.

What we know so far

  • Dates: the official WorldPride page currently lists 30 September–14 October 2028.
  • The plans: organisers outline a Pride parade, human rights conference, arts and culture, live entertainment, sport and community events.
  • Still to come: we haven't found a final parade date or route, full line-up, or WorldPride ticket prices in the official information checked so far. The usual Cape Town Pride route isn't confirmation of the WorldPride route.

One date detail to watch: the organiser's August handover announcement gives 28 September as the start. We'd get that clarified before committing to non-refundable travel.

Why we're looking forward to it

Our first Cape Town trip gave us plenty of reasons to go back. The people we met, the food, the coastline, and yes, a very enthusiastic appreciation of South African wine.

Our ideal return? Time for Pride, evenings in De Waterkant and a few extra days to enjoy the city without trying to squeeze everything between parties. Possibly a lie-in. We can dream.

Cape Town, we're already looking forward to you. 🌈

Official information checked 24 October 2026. Our Cape Town memories are from an earlier visit; the 2028 programme is still developing.
